[ubuntu] Best way to get VMware player on Ubuntu

OK, I need to run XP on Ubuntu in order to run very much use Windows App (Adobe Audition 1.5). WINE won't do. VirtualBox doesn't seem to give me access to sound cards.

I have VM workstation available to me , so I can create an XP virtual setup that way.

But how do I get the (free) VWWare player to run on Ubuntu. I don't see any installable versions (.deb) at their site.

TIA for any help. John

I've had good luck with this guide:https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VMware/Workstation

I did have to dl the latest version of workstation from VMware, as the one indicated in the tutorial never launched under jaunty (worked fine in hardy though).

Workstation also installs VMWare Player, the free version. I let my workstation trial expire and just keep using player. the individual player causes an D3D "Not Implemented" exception when I play my fav game, but it appears the function was implemented in the player stack that ships with workstation.
